Cullen is a traditional Scottish links course with magnificent views over the Moray Firth where dolphins are regularly seen. The club was founded in 1870 and the first nine holes were laid out by old Tom Morris. It was upgraded to 18 holes by Charlie Neaves. The course is centrally situated between Aberdeen & Inverness on the Moray Firth Coast. The course is 4,597 yards long and has a Par of 63. Cullen must lay claim to the most remarkable site for a golf course in Europe. There is not a lot of room within this amazing environment for Cullen’s 18 holes, with the course playing it’s outward nine close to the cliffs before doing an about-turn with the inward nine playing back at beach level. At 4,597 yards long, it does manage to fit in a 510-yard par-five 15th. A traditional seaside links course incorporating many blind shots Cullen offers great views of the coastline, Cullen Bay and beyond. Its opening hole is a straightforward par four while the second requires a delicate pitch onto a tight green on a plateau at the top of a hill. The par three, 7th, however, is the signature hole and you can see almost every green on the course from this vantage point. Although relatively short, several par threes require precision and a good slice of course management.
